Kula Who? KULADOO!
kuladoo is a small but merry band of people just like you. As personal shoppers, we often struggled with cutting through all the noise, particularly when on-line shopping, to find a gift that was meaningful to the recipient and giver alike. When we united our years of experience, we realized that the key to our success was not in just knowing what was stylish, new or the latest "must have" – success was in knowing our "customers". This seemed like a no-brainer, standard Marketing 101 stuff, right.
Ah! That's where we differ. The true key to our success is how we define "customer". kuladoo's customer is both the giver and the recipient. When buying products for yourself – you are the customer. But, when buying for someone else – both you and the recipient of your gift are the customer. If you both aren't satisfied – the customer is unsatisfied.
We don't just satisfy your need for a gift - we aim to help you thrill your gift recipient and in the process be thrilled yourself. That's the kuladoo difference.
So we got together with these engineer types and captured the discovery process we use to lend insight into the "real life" of the gift recipient to find that perfect gift. (We even offer a personality discovery process that really works and you can use to to learn more about yourself. It can be a lot of fun and actually make your kuladoo experience even more rewarding.) We continually refine our gift finding process and catalog - so watch us – just like the people we shop for – we continue to grow and get better with age.
Where does the name come from?
We love to answer this question! "Kula" is a gift ceremony in Papua New Guinea but similar practices have existed around the world more than a thousand years (under different names such as Koha, Moka, Sepik, and even Potlatch which is practiced by Native Americans in North America). A common theme of Kula, regardless of where it is practiced, is that the act and ceremony of giving draws the giver and the recipient closer together. In turn, "this drawing together" is a demonstration of the wisdom and greatness of character of the giver.
All of the communities that practice Kula as a way of life share adages like "a good Kula relationship is like marriage" and "once in Kula, always in Kula". kuladoo is designed to enhance the potential for gift-giving to bring people closer together, but we agree that "marriage" seems a little extreme!
We added the noun "do" (a function, celebration, or party), to demonstrate our commitment that your gift selection and giving opportunities should be a celebration of life, friendship and individuality. We threw the second "o" in just for fun.
kuladoo - a gift-giving celebration.
